Floodlight Competition
                Floodlight Competition

The Floodlight Competition held between Monday 3rd and Friday 7th September sponsored by Pearce Funeral Services of Stratton was a great success despite the inclement weather on Thursday – thanks to Ian Woods the organiser and everyone who helped either behind the bar, providing the food, selling raffle tickets or helping set out the Green before play.

In the semi finals 2 Stratton teams were draw together teams  Only Girls Allowed (including Janet Willis, Johanna Bryant, Wendy Anderson and Kathrine Riach as well as 2 players from Wootton Bassett) beat Stratton Allstars (Alan Gough, Craig Hare, Robin Gilbert and Ken Tucker).  The other semi-final saw Saxons from Cricklade overcoming defending champions Thamesiders from Purton.

In the Final turned into a close affair with Only Girls Allowed with recovering from 10 shots down to draw level at one point. They were unable to convert this into a victory with Saxons (Tony Milner, Pete Fitter, Eric Collier, Dave Messinger) winning 21-17 to become this years worthy winners.

Officers Triples Final

After winning through 4 rounds, Graham Strevens, Kathrine Riach and James Bryant ventured to Devizes for the final of the Officer Triples where they played Spencer Melksham (who consisted of a male Bowls Wiltshire player and two Ladies who had won through to Leamington in the Triples).  Despite playing well they were beaten by a better side who had more than their fair share of luck.  It was a great experience and who knows …. maybe next year!
